The Mind of Madeline Miller
To say that Madeline Miller loves classic literature would be an understatement. With a quick look at her website, she tells us that she studied Classics at Brown University, studied at the University of Chicago's Committee on Social Thought and the Yale School of Drama, and taught Latin, Greek, and Shakespearean texts for over 15 years. She states in an interview that she was heavily inspired by Homer and Vergil their works along with a Greek exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art that her mother took her to when she was young.
Miller published her second novel, Circe, in 2018 and reached immediate success. It was a New York Times bestseller, Indie bestseller, Publisher's Weekly Starred Review, and was on multiple magazine lists for "books to look forward to". The novel takes Circe, a witch and a goddess, and expands upon her story, breathing new life into the Odyssey.
